TECH DAY 2010 (Indonesia)
Hilton Bandung, 28 September 2010
Organized by Nesyer Electronic, Avnet EM, a leading distributor of semiconductors, interconnect, passive and electromechanical components and Texas Instruments (TI), the world leader in digital signal processing and analog technologies held a one day seminar at Hilton Hotel Bandung, 28 September 2010. The seminar was entitled “TECH DAY 2010 (Indonesia)” and its aim was to explore the developments and applications of Texas Instruments Microcontrollers.

Seminar program included four presentation sessions on the topics of M3, Analog Products, Low Power RF, and MSP430; also completed with the last hands-on session of MSP430.

Mr. Eddie Koh from Texas Instrument Singapore started the first session on M3, about Stellaris MCUs and ARM Cortex-M3 that could offer a direct path to the strongest ecosystem of development tools, software, and knowledge in the industry. The Stellaris family offers the industry's first and broadest implementation of Cortex-M3 and the Thumb-2 instruction set. With blazingly-fast responsiveness, Thumb-2 technology combines both 16-bit and 32-bit instructions to deliver the best balance of code density and performance. Thumb-2 uses 26 percent less memory than pure 32-bit code to reduce system cost while delivering 25 percent better performance.

The next session is Analog Products by Mr. Jimmy Kuah, Field Application Engineer from Avnet. The presentation is about a comprehensive high-performance analog portfolio from amplifiers and data converters to power management and interface offered by Texas Instruments.

Presentation continued to Low Power RF that includes RF transceivers, RF transmitters, RF Front end, network processors and System-on-Chips as well as various software solutions for the sub-1 and 2.4-GHz frequency bands. While the MSP430 session is discuss about MSP430 MCU ultra-low power microcontroller solutions that designed specifically for ultra-low-power or no-power applications.

In hands-on session, each participated company get the board of MSP-EXP430G2 LaunchPad experimenter board from TI as a scalable introduction to the world of microcontrollers and the MSP430 family. The board is already completed with USB-based development and experimenter tool. LaunchPad has an integrated DIP target socket that supports up to 20 pins, allowing MSP430 Value Line devices to be dropped into the LaunchPad board. Also, an on-board flash emulation tool allows direct interface to a PC for easy programming, debugging, and evaluation. Included are free and downloadable software development environments for writing and debugging software. It can be used to create interactive solutions thanks to its on-board push buttons, LEDs, and extra input/output pins for easy integration of external devices.

This Seminar has been brought together 43 professionals and engineers from over 20 companies with 6 experts from Avnet and Texas Instruments; it is an opportunity for information exchange and discussion of wide selection of solutions from TI for various electronic projects.
